A practice for the age

The Buddhi-Vivek Yoga Sadhana

This practice, set out by Bhaiyaji, refines buddhi and vivek — intellect and discernment — and makes them clear and pure. Even within worldly life, it carries a person naturally towards positive thought, self-development, love, peace and joy.

The need of the age

A simple spiritual path for an intellectual age

Since ancient times, humanity has followed diverse spiritual practices — knowledge, devotion, selfless action, yoga, mantra and meditation — in the search for peace, happiness and inner fulfilment.

With the rise of the Information Age and the growing importance of intellectual capital, Buddhi and Vivek — intellect and discrimination — have become increasingly important for both material and spiritual progress. Recognising this changing need, Bhaiyaji, after taking up the Chakra in 1990, propounded Buddhi-Vivek Yog Sadhana as an age-appropriate path that transforms intellectual development into a means of spiritual growth.

Buddhi-Vivek Yog Sadhana and the knowledge contained in 'The Wonderful World After Death' are complementary and together present an integrated approach to intellectual refinement, inner transformation and spiritual evolution.
What the practice is

Spiritual progress while living a worldly life

Seekers at a spiritual knowledge discourse — practice within a householder's life
To shape, refine and make pure the buddhi and the vivek is the very centre of this practice.

This practice seeks not only to sharpen and develop the intellect and discrimination but also to purify and direct them towards love, peace, happiness and inner growth. As individuals transform, they can positively influence those around them, creating the possibility of a wider social transformation.

Modern science has made life more comfortable, yet stress, unrest and lack of direction continue to grow. Children and young people, in particular, often struggle to find clarity about education, work and the purpose of life. Even spiritually inclined individuals may find complex practices difficult to follow and seek a simpler, practical path.

For human welfare, Bhaiyaji developed Buddhi-Vivek Yog Sadhana, based on his spiritual experiences and knowledge received from Maa Tripurasundari. It is a simple, contemporary method aimed at the holistic development of both the material and spiritual dimensions of life.

Bhaiyaji believed that every individual is endowed with the invaluable gift of Buddhi-Vivek. For those in whom these faculties are insufficiently developed, the practice provides a Preliminary Sadhana to bring them to the required level before undertaking the main practice.

The practice works through progressive stages of refining and purifying Buddhi (intellect) and awakening Vivek (discrimination). As these faculties develop, one's thoughts and perspective gradually transform, negative thinking gives way to positivity, concentration increases, and love, peace and inner joy begin to emerge. The practice therefore supports both worldly progress and spiritual growth.

Purity while living in the world, like the lotus

The whole of this practice is explained through the image of the lotus: even while in the world, free of attachment; even while acting, at peace; even while progressing, pure within.

A person uses material means as they are needed, but as buddhi becomes pure and vivek awakens, attachment to wealth, desire and fame lessens of itself — and alongside material success, love, peace and lasting joy come within easy reach.

The steps of the practice

Six steps: from knowledge to karma-sadhana

From knowledge, science and reflection — to resolve, surrender and mindful karma-sadhana.

Step one

Knowledge

Knowledge goes beyond acquiring information; it means understanding the universe, science, society, family, the body and the deeper dimensions of life. From a spiritual perspective, it also involves exploring fundamental questions about the purpose of human life, consciousness, creation, God, birth and death, and the attainment of inner joy. Knowledge removes the darkness of ignorance and awakens discrimination.

Step two

Scientific Inquiry

This stage involves seeking truth through curiosity, observation, analysis and reasoning, free from preconceived notions. It develops a scientific outlook and the ability to examine and understand truth objectively.

Step three

Reflection

Reflection means deeply considering the purpose, benefits, limitations and various aspects of a subject on the basis of knowledge and scientific inquiry. It removes doubts, strengthens conviction and provides a firm foundation for further practice.

Step four

Resolve

Resolve is the firm determination to achieve the goal identified through reflection. Once the goal is set, one moves towards it with steadfastness and awareness, without leaving room for alternatives.

Step five

Surrender

After resolve comes complete faith and surrender to the chosen ideal. One gradually offers one's sense of ownership, authority and responsibility to the Divine and accepts complete reliance upon it. In Buddhi-Vivek Sadhana, surrender naturally begins to unfold after the first four stages.

Step six

Karma-sadhana

Having progressed through these stages, the individual moves towards Karma Sadhana — conscious and purposeful action. With purified intellect and awakened discrimination, actions become free from unnecessary stress, fear, ego, jealousy and anxiety about results. Work is performed with love, joy and a spirit of cooperation, improving both effectiveness and relationships. Alongside this, practices such as japa, meditation, pranayama and contemplation naturally begin to develop.

The experiences of the practice

Three experiences: love, peace and bliss

Mature practice awakens a selfless love, an evenness of mind and a divine bliss within.

First experience

Love

Love is regarded as the purest expression of the Divine — selfless, all-encompassing and filled with goodwill towards every living being. It creates a deeper connection with the Divine and brings peace, joy and fulfilment. As the stages of Sadhana are progressively completed, the seeds of selfless love begin to awaken in the human heart.

Second experience

Peace

Peace is a state in which the mind remains undisturbed physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. A peaceful person develops contentment, equanimity and freedom from excessive attachment to material desires and expectations. Through Buddhi-Vivek Yog Sadhana, a person learns to use material resources appropriately while cultivating a state of lasting inner peace.

Third experience

Bliss

With the awakening of love, an individual develops a deeper connection with the Divine and begins to experience sustained inner joy. Bliss is described as a state in which the impact of pleasure and pain, joy and sorrow, and stress gradually diminishes. One accepts circumstances with equanimity and remains established in love, peace and joy. Beyond words, bliss represents the highest experience of Sadhana — the experience of oneness with the Divine.

The source

The Siddhapeeth — where this whole body of knowledge was set out

The Siddhapeeth building where Shardaji did sadhana
The Siddhapeeth — where the divine energy of Bhaiyaji’s sadhana remains fully present today.

The source of these teachings is the Siddhapeeth, where Bhaiyaji undertook Sadhana and received knowledge and guidance from Maa Tripurasundari. It is regarded as a sacred place where the spiritual energy of Bhaiyaji’s Sadhana continues to remain alive.

The Sadhana undertaken at the Siddhapeeth is believed to bear fruit quickly, and the same principle is associated with Manidweep. Bhaiyaji’s methods for progressing towards spiritual realisation are simple, accessible and practical. While traditional paths such as knowledge, devotion, selfless action and yoga may require dedicated time and concentration, Buddhi-Vivek Yog Sadhana enables a person to pursue spiritual growth at any place, at any time and amidst everyday responsibilities.

It therefore offers a way to harmonise material life and spiritual development, enabling a person to progress towards inner fulfilment while continuing to engage fully with the world.

“Through Buddhi-Vivek Yog Sadhana, let us advance ourselves and others towards spiritual fulfilment along with material progress.”
